“Trutamora” or more commonly “mora” in Slovenian, this symbol can still be found in old houses and stables, where it was carved or painted on furniture, walls and doors to protect the household and livestock from dangers. In Slovenian folklore, “mora” was a black cat wandering around at night and bringing on nightmares to the villagers who therefore drew “morina taca” (more’s paw) on cradles to keep their babies safe from nightmares and other evil forces.
